    Founder/ Practice Owner/Lead Coach

    Greetings, I am Tamina.

I am enamored with spaces that cultivate connection and healing. In 2020, I founded The Space & Advocacy Project (S&A), centering the vision around intentionally creating space for wellbeing in the lives of BIPOC/LGBTQ+ survivors of trauma and toxic stress.

My philosophy of practice rejects medicalization and pathologization of the human experience; I embrace the fullness of humanity as it presents in each individual. My lens of practice is trauma-informed care. My coaching style is grounded in the guiding principles of S&A: compassion, connection, curiosity, choice, and care.

This practice is my legacy project- calling upon all elements of my personal and professional toolkit.

I am a Registered Nurse with over 20 years of experience in nursing and mental health. I am also an advanced Registered Yoga Teacher, Master-Certified Professional Coach, Certified Case Manager, and a Masters- level Social Worker.

I hold an M.S. from Howard University School of Social Work, an M.S. from the University of Maryland School of Nursing (Health Services Leadership and Management), a B.S. from Trinity Washington University (Nursing), and a B.S. from the University of Maryland University College (Global Business & Public Policy). I hold certifications/extensive experience in Trauma-Informed Mental Health Counseling, Mental Health Coaching, Health Advocacy, Life Coaching, Professional Coaching, Somatic Coaching, Trauma Center Trauma- Sensitive Yoga (Facilitator), and the Trauma- Conscious Yoga Method. I also hold certifications/extensive experience in Care Management and Healthcare Quality.

I live in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area with my two amazing daughters, who bring me immense joy- I am so glad they were born. I am married to a wonderful woman whose love grounds and affirms me daily. I belong to an incredible tribe of siblings who inspire me to dream while keeping me humble. My awesome sisterhood circle supports me in all things great and small- their voices embody the spirit behind S&A. I enjoy reading, writing, culinary creations, yoga, and spending quality time with loved ones.

Community Love Letter to BIPOC Survivors of Toxic Stress and Trauma

Dear Us,

I believe in the profound beauty of human resilience.

Our greatest strength lies in our capacity to connect—with ourselves and with others—from a place of grounding and compassion, moment by moment.

From this place, we can intentionally shape and advocate for lives we are proud to live, even in the shadow of past traumas or ongoing stressors.

From this place, we do more than survive—we thrive.

And to thrive in ways that are deeply meaningful to us is not a privilege. It is our birthright.

In Deep Gratitude,

Tamina

“ Surviving is important. Thriving is elegant.”
